What Is Sweat Equity?
Our affiliate requires families who are selected as Partner Families, to complete a minimum of 500 hours of “sweat equity”.
These hours are completed by assisting with construction, attending workshops and seminars, attend Board meetings, volunteer at the Store, help with mailings, volunteer at exhibit booths, and other Habitat activities.
Partner families will labor alongside volunteers from all over the LC valley. They will build together, sweat together, laugh together, and cry together. You will become friends with many of these volunteers…..actually more than friends….they will become “family” to you as well.
“Sweat Equity” means that you as an Lewiston - Clarkston Partners Habitat For Humanity homeowner have invested time and labor, not just money, into building decent, affordable houses within our community.
Sweat equity helps:
- Create partnerships between Habitat families, volunteers and staff
- Families learn how to manage and maintain their homes
- Homeowners have a sense of pride in their homes

Note:
If you are not able to perform your sweat equity hours through physical labor, don’t be discouraged. There are plenty of ways to complete sweat equity….just make sure that you let our Family Selection Committee Chair know so that they can work with you on this.
